From fun taster sessions to success in regional competition
St John’s offers a rich range of sporting opportunities from fun taster sessions though to regional competition. We offer PE in a safe and supportive environment, and encourage all staff as well as pupils to take part, find out what interests them and build up their skills. We believe that PE provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive, learn teamwork and face up to challenges.
Children at St John’s get to try out a wide range of sport, dance and other physical activity. They can do this in class time and at clubs after school. This year we are offering things ranging from athletics to zumba, and including rock climbing, Wii dance, waterpolo and a football festivals.
“It's interesting and fun. The teachers always have great ideas for different activities.” Year 5 pupil
South Dartmoor School Sport Partnership
We work closely with the South Dartmoor School Sport Partnership (SSP). This means we can offer much more than if we stood alone as a smallish primary school. This partnership also gives us chance to stretch pupls with a particular gift, by taking part in regional competitions.
“The sport was really fun and I got into a lot of competitions because of St John’s. It gave me confidence so now I’m at High School I still do sport after school as well as in PE.” Former girl pupil, now in Year 8
